Legacy system and Camping
World of Warcraft: Forever keeps a 1–60 outdoor loop and then stacks quality-of-life systems on top of it. The Legacy system grants account-wide benefits whenever you progress a character, built to reward alts without Hardcore death stakes. Camping reworks the Cooking Fire into a Basic Campfire with rest, vendors, repairs, workspaces, one-hour buffs, and up to three profession objects. Professions add more than 600 new recipes. Honor sits beside a later Darkspear Islands 15v15 battleground. Characters use a two-name realmless identity. Visual presets cover HD and SD models plus modern or Classic looks. There are no flying mounts and no level scaling.
Legacy system
Account-wide benefits whenever you progress a character, built to reward alts without Hardcore death stakes.
Legacy is the alt layer for Forever. Progress on one character feeds the account, so rerolling Gnome Priest after a Dwarf Shaman is meant to keep paying you. Hardcore is a later roadmap mode, not the thing Legacy is balancing on day one.

Camping / Basic Campfire
Reworks Cooking Fire into a campsite with rest, vendors, repairs, workspaces, one-hour buffs, and up to three profession objects.
Camping is the roadside town you build yourself. The Deep Dive and hub System Revamps both name Basic Campfire as the object. It is not a player housing plot and it is not a garrison.

Professions
Over 600 new recipes, food that can grant a small experience bonus, Blueprint recipes from dungeon bosses.
The 600-plus recipes are the first-party count. Food can add a small experience bonus. Dungeon bosses can drop Blueprint recipes. Exact lists are not in the sealed records, so they are not invented here.
Honor
Hub lists Honor changes alongside Camping and professions; What’s Next adds Darkspear Islands 15v15.
Honor is named as a Forever pillar next to Camping. Darkspear Islands is a 15 versus 15 battleground off Kalimdor mixing control points with Arathi Basin-style flag play. That battleground is roadmap-adjacent, not a launch-day rating season dump.
HD / SD models and lighting
Modern and Classic visual presets, HD and SD character models, restored Classic animations on HD, lighting updates in Elwynn, Darkshore, Ashenvale.
You can pick HD or SD character models and modern or Classic visual presets. HD can still play Classic animations. Lighting examples include Elwynn, Darkshore, and Ashenvale. Official gamepad support is part of the same What’s Next visual pass.

Two-name realmless identity
First name plus surname unique as a pair within a region, supporting a larger realmless Azeroth.
Names are unique as a pair inside a region, not as a single string on a tiny realm. Early Name Reservation is the late-October window for claiming those pairs before launch. See the launch page for the dated window.
Legacy and Camping as the everyday loop
Legacy is the reason Forever talks about alts without turning the game into a season you throw away. Account-wide benefits fire whenever you progress a character. The Deep Dive is explicit that this is not a Hardcore death economy. Hardcore is later, after the 9 December raids. Legacy is for the people who will roll Dwarf Shaman and then Forsaken Paladin on the same Battle.net account.
Camping is the world-social half of that everyday loop. The old Cooking Fire becomes a Basic Campfire: rest, vendors, repairs, workspaces, one-hour buffs, and up to three profession objects. You are supposed to stop on the side of the road and make a small town, not hearth to a capital for every vendor click. That is also why professions mention Blueprint recipes from dungeon bosses; the camp is where those recipes get used.
Open the disclosures above for the sealed summaries, then come back to this section when you need the relationship: Legacy pays you for the next character, Camping makes the outdoor map social, professions feed the camp. None of those systems require a pack. Skyborne is the pack gate; these are branch-wide.
Names, visuals, and what Forever refuses
Two-name identity is how a realmless Azeroth stays unique without 2004 realm sizes. You pick a first name and a surname; the pair is unique in the region. Early Name Reservation is the late-October claim window, including the German legalese dates of 27 October to 3 November on the hub. Invite-A-Friend launch codes are a separate store flag on the packs, not a naming rule.
Visual presets are a player choice, not a one-true art direction. HD and SD character models both exist. Modern and Classic lighting presets both exist. HD can restore Classic animations. Ashenvale, Darkshore, and Elwynn are the named lighting examples; the Azeroth page shows the stills. Gamepad support is official in the same What’s Next pass.
What Forever refuses is as useful as what it adds. No flying mounts. No level scaling. No Steam SKU. Those refusals keep the 1–60 geography and the original continents in charge. Honor changes and Darkspear Islands sit on the PvP side of that same philosophy: new structure on old land, not a separate modern island.

What to set up before you roll
If you care about alts, read Legacy first and plan two combinations from the races page. If you care about outdoor life, read Camping and professions and expect to drop a Basic Campfire instead of living in Ironforge. If you care about identity, read the two-name rules and show up for Early Name Reservation.
If you care about how the game looks, decide HD versus SD and modern versus Classic before you screenshot your first character. Those presets are meant to be chosen, not endured. If you care about PvP, note Honor as a launch pillar and Darkspear Islands as the named 15v15, then wait for the December-adjacent PvP notes on the roadmap rather than expecting a full arena season document today.
Hardcore is not on this page as a launch toggle because it is not a launch-day mode in the sealed notes. It is a post-December item. Do not roll a Forever character as if permadeath is already the realm rule.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Legacy system replace Hardcore?
No. Legacy is the account-wide alt reward layer for ordinary Forever play. Hardcore is listed after the 9 December raids as a later 1–60 update, not as a launch-day ruleset. Legacy exists so alts still pay you when you are not playing a death-stakes mode.
What is a Basic Campfire in Forever?
It is the reworked Cooking Fire. Camping lets you place a campsite with rest, vendors, repairs, workspaces, one-hour buffs, and up to three profession objects. It is a world social tool, not player housing and not a garrison. Professions feed it with new recipes and dungeon Blueprint drops.
How do character names work without realms?
You use a first name plus a surname. The pair is unique within a region on a realmless Azeroth. That is the two-name identity described in the Create a Name news. Early Name Reservation is the late-October window for claiming a pair before the 4 November launch.
